    As many of you may be aware, Oracle recently removed the eTRM site from the My Oracle Support portal with no advance notice to the Oracle user community.  Users attempting to access the online eTRMs are now directed to Doc ID 2736939.1 with links to download the files.  The search functionality has also been removed, so users no longer have the ability to search for a table name.  This change was made with no advance notice and has crippled many in the Oracle user community.  Many users have reported problems with the download and are now left without access to the eTRMs.  A campaign has been initiated in the Oracle Communities section of the My Oracle Support portal to vote for the eTRM site and Search functionality to be re-enabled.  Please click the following link and mark "Vote Up" for this functionality to be restored. 


    Perhaps our collective voice will influence Oracle to restore the online eTRMs.  Thank you in advance for your vote.

    I would be more than happy to work with My Oracle Support to create an APEX application to replace eTRM and bring back this valuable information to the community.

    I would love to support Bill and the OATUG Customer Support Council in bringing this eTRM back to life.

    Hi Ragan,

     

    I tried to send the below email (cut/pasted below my signature) to the Council at support@oatug.org , for assistance with the eTRM issue.  However, your server keeps rejecting the email.  I reported this email issue to Bill Dunham, who is following up with OATUG on that.  In the meantime, can you help get the below email gets to the Council?

    I am sending this email to seek assistance from the OATUG Customer Support Council to express the collective voice from the OATUG community regarding the following issue.

     

    On March 25, 2021 Oracle removed the online eTRMs with zero notice to the Oracle user community.  Users attempting to access the eTRMs from https://etrm.oracle.com are now directed to My Oracle Support Document 2736939.1 - Oracle E-Business Suite Electronic Technical Reference Manual (eTRM), Release 12.1 and 12.2 , which provides instructions to download the files. 

     

    The process to download and unzip the eTRM files is problematic and takes many hours.  I attempted to download and extract the files to our network several times.  Each time the index.html file to open the browser was missing, and the eTRMs could not be opened.  I finally had to install the eTRMs on my computer's local hard drive.   I can access the eTRM files from there, but noticed the Search functionality is now missing.

     

    Since March many users across the Oracle community have voiced their complaints on various blogs.  On May 6, 2021, Rekha Ayothi from Oracle Product Management posted on https://blogs.oracle.com/ebstech/update-to-ebs-electronic-technical-reference-manual-etrm

     

    "I understand the concerns raised here. Let me try to answer your queries:

    On Why this change? Why not host the static pages of eTRM?
    The eTRM was built on a set of tools and technology that are no longer supported. To continue to provide the content to customers, we have exported the eTRM to a set of static HTML documents. The eTRM is delivered in a downloadable format as this is the best way for Oracle to continue to provide the content.

    Regarding Search option:
    Search option is not available with the downloadable format of eTRM.

    If you are facing issues with extraction of certain zip files, try to re-download them before unzipping it.
    If issue persists, please file a Service Request with My Oracle Support, one of our Support Engineers will assist you. File the SR against Oracle Applications DBA product."

     

    On April 1 I Logged SR  3-25584762211 with Oracle Support seeking help with the download issues and the missing search function.  Support has been unhelpful, and as of today the SR remains unresolved.  I also reached out to our Oracle rep for assistance, who was unable to help.

     

    On June 8, 2021 I posted the entry "ORACLE ONLINE ETRM REMOVED FROM MY ORACLE SUPPORT PORTAL" on the OATUG portal.  The entry included a link to https://community.oracle.com/tech/welcome/discussion/4484386/bring-back-etrm/ , where users can vote to restore the online eTRMS.  108 upvotes have been received to date.  Comments posted from users succinctly summarize the sentiment across the community:

    "What an unwieldy mess that Oracle has given us. A dump of files to scrounge through. With no search capability. And yes I can recreate this on my laptop, by carefully downloading all of the files, but this requires lots of time to do (and I have a Dell Precision laptop, fast with ample RAM). Please restore the search capability. I've watched the Oracle TRM and user documentation steadily go downhill over the years, losing report descriptions (remember the user guides from Release 10.7 which still had full report descriptions, including the report layouts?) to now just dumping the TRM files into massive zip files and hundreds of individual files in each zip and telling the Oracle Community, here, just use this."

    Ragan mentions above but I wanted to confirm as well on behalf of the Council.  The message has been received and passed along to Oracle Leadership.  We are awaiting to hear the response and have our normally scheduled council call (which Oracle Support leadership attends) next Thursday.
