  • 1.  Edge and JAVA Web Start Policy Issue

    Posted 09-29-2021 11:52 AM

We are implementing Microsoft Edge (Chromium)and Java Web Start. In General Ledger, when we try to drill to a Payables (or receivables, inventory, projects etc) journal line back to the transaction detail, Oracle/Edge/Java gives the following error:

Frmservlet(8).jnlp was blocked because this type of file can harm your device.

We have to click on the more details on the message (the 3 dots in the screen shot) and click keep, before the summary screen will display in Oracle.

We have implemented the AutoOpenFileType and the AutoOpenAllowedForURLLs policies, but we still have the issue noted above.

We did an SR and Oracle states that since this is expected behavior for Edge, albeit the policies are supposed to fix this, the policies are considered "custom" and as such they can't help us.  [see note Using Java Web Start with Oracle E-Business Suite ( Doc ID 2188898.1 ) section - 6.6 Microsoft Edge (Chromium)]

Did anyone else experience this and how did you resolve it?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Toni,

We have JWS and we are not seeing the symptom you describe.  When launching FORMS, we did see that Edge downloaded frmservlet.jnlp files.  I have Edge v94 (Chromium) on my machine.  It is absurd to expect our users to download and open JNLP every time they launch forms, so we had our internal Desktop Support staff to develop a solution.  I don't know the specific details, but I know they implemented a Windows AD Group Policy to allow JNLP to automatically open on download from specific EBS URLs.

    Hope that helps,

    If you browse to edge://policy

What are the values for these policy names? Are they what you expect?
AutoOpenAllowedForURL (.host.domain) (note the . at the beginning)
    AutoOpenFileTypes (jnlp)
