Cloud: How Do We Get There? And Why Should We?

With around a month to go before OAUG Cloud Week, Oracle have just announced Soar – "the last upgrade you will ever need.". Soar represents a package for getting on-prem customers to the cloud. With around 15% of on-prem customers now shifted to the cloud (as of their Q3 results statement), Oracle is clearly trying to remove those barriers to entry that have been holding many organizations back. In fact, Steve Miranda, Oracle VP of Application Development, stated that all of Oracle's new technology and automation has led to one simple statement and question: "Great, but how do we get there?"

Even before the Oracle Soar announcement, OAUG Cloud Week was put together in part to help answer this question. The desire is to have customers present on their cloud journey, starting with the selection process. The 'why' part doesn't always get answered so easily amongst all the sales and marketing hype. By going to the end of the lifecycle and working back, we will hear from organizations that are live on cloud products to share what they are like to live with and what value they are getting?

Cloud Week was put together in a relatively short time, and from the outset was designed to give mostly customers the chance to present their stories. Despite the short time frame, we received over 90 education abstract submissions. The high quality of the submissions made it a hard selection, but we have some great sessions lined up, and we're working with Oracle on additional content as this is written.

So why Cloud Week? As a users group, we must embrace the shift to the cloud, while serving the current community who remain on-prem. Plus, new Oracle customers who have never experienced any other technology except cloud need a community to be a part of. The continued success of events like the annual COLLABORATE conference and OAUG educational programming throughout each year will be determined on how well we can accommodate and grow based on these customers.

Everyone is invited to attend the opening panel discussion on July 9. OAUG members can log in to register for any and all of the additional 20 webinar presentations. Check out the OAUG Cloud Week lineup now.
