Embracing Oracle EPM (Hyperion) 11.2 Continuous Innovation

By Jun Zhang posted 08-19-2019 05:14 PM

Oracle recently announced the Continuous Innovation model for on-premises Oracle EPM (Hyperion) System 11.2 in June 2019, where Oracle delivers ongoing applications and underlying technology stack updates without a major upgrade. In other words, the new version of on-premises Oracle EPM (Hyperion) is coming out in September 2019!  With this new release, Oracle made the commitment to its customers to provide Oracle Premier Support through at least 2030.

In the EPM 11.2 release, Oracle Essbase 11.1.2.4 will be used continuously. Foundation services will be replaced with a simpler Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) repository. From a third-party certifications perspective, the solution will support Windows 2012, 2016, Linux 7, and AIX 7.2 operating systems; Oracle Database 12.2 and SQL Server 2017 databases; Edge, Chrome, and Firefox browsers; and JDK 1.8. It is important to note that the RDBMS is not limited to these items listed. The enhancements will be delivered through a series of Patch Set Updates (PSUs).

The continuous innovation model for Oracle EPM (Hyperion) 11.2 delivers ongoing applications and underlying technology stack updates without a major upgrade. This tells Oracle customers that the 11.2 version will access new functionality and uptake later versions of the underlying technology for years to come. This would provide the same patching flexibility available today in the Oracle EPM Cloud, which allows customers to get up to speed on the new functionalities and features without the time and expense of a major traditional system update.

This release also includes an updated version of Oracle Fusion Middleware platform technologies, which means the 11.2 release joins the Applications Unlimited offerings along with product lines such as Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, and Siebel. Oracle’s Lifetime Support puts customers in control of their own upgrade strategy. All of the bug fixes and new features are consolidated into easily applied O-Patch patches.
