Master Reporting in Oracle Cloud Migrations: The Key to a Smoother Transition

By Beth Moran posted 02-18-2025 12:44 PM

One of the most overlooked challenges in Oracle Cloud migrations is the unexpected complexity of reporting. Many organizations wait until the migration is complete to tackle it, only to uncover gaps, delays, and inefficiencies that could have been easily avoided. So, why wait until it’s too late?

Instead of treating reporting as a post-go-live task, why not build it into your migration strategy from the very beginning? By doing so, your team can streamline data validation, ensure smoother reconciliation, and accelerate user adoption—setting the stage for a faster, more seamless transition to Oracle Cloud.

The Hidden Costs of Postponing Reporting in Cloud Migrations

Delaying reporting until after your Oracle Cloud deployment can lead to a variety of challenges, including:

·  Data Reconciliation Challenges – Without seamless access to both Oracle Cloud and EBS data in the same Excel workbook, reconciling information across systems becomes time-consuming and prone to errors.

·  Testing Bottlenecks – User Acceptance Testing (UAT) relies on easy access to both Oracle Cloud and EBS data, along with prebuilt templates, to validate data. Without these, the testing process becomes slower and more prone to delays.

·  Team Readiness Delays – Introducing reporting tools after migration leaves teams struggling to adapt, leading to decreased efficiency and increased frustration.

·  Visibility Gaps – Without a structured approach, cross-platform reporting between Oracle EBS and Oracle Cloud can lack consistency, hindering access to critical insights.

·  Change Management Resistance – Waiting until the last minute to address reporting can create adoption roadblocks, making it more difficult for teams to embrace new processes.

Each of these challenges can derail project timelines, inflate costs, and disrupt business operations. However, by prioritizing reporting early in the migration process, these risks can be minimized, ensuring a smoother and more efficient transition.

The Benefits of Prioritizing Reporting During Migration

Addressing reporting early in the migration process empowers organizations to maximize efficiency and minimize risks. By integrating reporting as a key component of the migration strategy, companies can:

·  Ensure Seamless Reconciliation – Setting up reporting early helps validate data and identify discrepancies well before go-live, preventing costly delays and errors.

·   Enhance Change Management & Adoption – Familiarizing teams with reporting tools ahead of migration builds confidence and accelerates adoption, ensuring smoother transitions.

·  Enable Cross-Platform Reporting – Seamlessly access consistent, actionable insights from both Oracle EBS and Oracle Cloud, supporting comprehensive decision-making.

·    Accelerate Informed Decision-Making – Having reports ready from day one empowers stakeholders to make data-driven decisions throughout and after the migration, ensuring continuous progress.

Overcoming Common Reporting Challenges in Cloud Migrations

Organizations migrating to Oracle Cloud often encounter key reporting challenges, including:

· Managing Complex Data Structures – Ensuring consistency when migrating reporting hierarchies without losing critical information.

·  Ensuring Seamless Cross-Platform Reporting – Maintaining continuity and accuracy in reporting across both Oracle EBS and Cloud ERP systems.

·  Reducing IT Dependence – Empowering business users with self-service reporting tools to reduce reliance on IT teams and promote greater agility.

·  Standardizing Reports for Scalability – Developing a structured, scalable report repository that supports long-term reporting needs post-migration.

The solution? A proactive reporting strategy that leverages automation, validation, and real-time insights—ensuring a smooth migration and setting the foundation for sustained success.

Great insights! Reporting is often underestimated during the transformation from legacy systems to Oracle Cloud. But as you rightly highlighted, deferring the reporting strategy until after go-live can lead to avoidable challenges and rework.

From my experience with Oracle PPM Cloud implementations, especially when migrating large volumes of Projects, Tasks, and Project Costs—the standard out-of-the-box reports often fall short in validating custom components built for specific customer needs. That’s why a robust reporting strategy should be part of the initial solution design, not just a post-migration checkpoint.

It’s important to align reporting with data conversion requirements early in the project. BI Publisher (BIP) reports should be developed to support both pre- and post-load validations, ensuring data accuracy throughout. These reports must also be thoroughly tested as part of the implementation lifecycle to ensure users are familiar with them and confident in their use for validation purposes.

This approach improves accuracy, boosts user adoption, and ultimately leads to a smoother and more successful Oracle Cloud transition.
