Teaching University Students How to Implement OTM

When:  Dec 2, 2025 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)
This session will give you in-depth detail on how Professor Thomas Deakins at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville created a class: The Principles of Transportation Management Systems using OTM for a full semester, and being the first University to teach OTM for a full semester.

Learn how Undergraduate students took OTM Cloud plain out of the box and turned it into a finished product that a fictitious company could use to enter their orders, plan their orders, execute their orders, report, audit and approve freight invoices, and demonstrate cost savings via reporting capabilities in OTM Cloud.

Thomas will discuss the class setup, how students learned about OTM and the Gartner TMS MQ, how to perform a discovery interview with a client, build an implementation plan, assign team members roles and tasks for the implementation, perform UAT, trouble shoot, go-live, and give final presentations on cost savings and overall ROI.   Thomas will also discuss the support he was provided via Oracle SI partners, Oracle, and ISV partners; SMC3 and Trimble.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Review the OTM setup and class structure
  2. Use case and company used for implementing OTM
  3. Implementation plan, results and student presentations
